Do you ever catch yourself doing something the same way someone else taught you — even if they might not be part of your current life chapter?
This week, I’ve been reflecting on all the little habits and quirks I’ve picked up from people over the years. It’s wild how they’ve stuck with me, like a quiet thread connecting me to them. Here are some examples:
I react to BTS updates—not because I’m a fan, but because one of my girlfriends loves them, and it feels like a way to stay connected to her.
At Subway, I always get the same sauce order a friend used to choose when we used to go together seven years ago.
When I visit Berlin, I always stop by the same Matcha café my ex-friend adored, even though we haven’t spoken in two years.
I’ve picked up my partner’s slang so much that I sometimes feel like his personality doppelgänger.
Whenever I come across a Harry Potter store, I step in—not as a Potterhead, but because of my friend who dragged me to every HP store we saw during our Europe trip.
It’s fascinating how people leave fingerprints on our lives. I don’t think it’s about being resistant to change or stuck in the past—I think it’s about finding comfort in the familiar. It’s like carrying a little piece of the people I’ve loved, tucked into my daily life.
And because life’s better when we share, here’s what I’ve been loving lately:
📖 Resource Bite of the Week:
“Using Are.na for research”, is a nice read about using Are.na to set up spaces/folders. I love it because it allows me to be unorganised and organised with my thoughts at the same time.
🍝 Recipe I’m Loving:
A 5-minute smoothie recipe I recently discovered— thanks to TikTok. All you gotta do is add mango, blue spirulina, pineapple, and coconut water to the blender.
📚 What I’m Reading:
If cats disappeared from the world — made me think about what is important to me.
✨ Reflection Prompt:
What’s one habit, phrase, or routine you’ve picked up from someone else? Does it still connect you to them in some way?
Until next time,
